There are two watch towers in the periyar forest. THE PERIYAR LAKE:It is formed by the contruction of the dam across the Mullaperiyar river in 1895.,the lake harbours within itself a unique aquatic eco system. a boat cruise on the lake is perhaps the best way to watch the wild life in the reserve. ACCESS: The entry in the reserve is Thekkedy,which is accessable by good roads from airports of Madurai(145Km),kochi(190Km)and thiruvanathapuram(272Km).the nearest railhead is Kottayam(114Km).The nearest town is Kumally(4Km).
